AQUARIUM AND MUSEUM REGULATIONS 1997

[made under section 50 of the Agriculture Act 1930 [title 25 item 1] and brought into operation on 1 April 1997

Citation and commencement

1 These Regulations may be cited as the Aquarium and Museum Regulations 1997, and shall come into operation on 1 April 1997.

Interpretation

2 In these Regulations—

"application" means an application under regulation 6;

"approval" means approval under regulation 7;

"Aquarium" means the Aquarium and Museum referred to in section 50 of the Agriculture Act 1930 [title 25 item 1];

"Curator" means the principal curator of the Aquarium.

Admission of public

3 (1) The Aquarium shall be open to the public on each day, except Christmas Day, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

(2) Children under the age of 13 who visit the Aquarium must be accompanied by an adult during their visit thereto.

Admission Fees

4 The following fees are prescribed for admission to the Aquarium—

(a)

Adults

$8

(b)

Adults (upon presenting satisfactory proof that they are residents of Bermuda and over 65 years of age)

(c)

Any person (upon presenting a valid special person's card issued by the Transport Control Department)

(d)

Members of any Armed Forces (in uniform)

$4

(e)

Children 5 to 12 years inclusive

$4

(f)

Children under 5 years

Free

(g)

Members of the Bermuda Zoological Society

Free

(h)

School children when attended by a teacher and at such times and in such numbers as may be previously arranged with the Curator



Free

(i)

Any person entering the Aquarium on a day referred to in regulation 5


Free.

Declaration of free admission days

5 The Minister may, by notice published in the Gazette, declare that every person who enters the Aquarium on the date specified in the notice shall be permitted to enter therein free of charge.

Applications for discounted admission tickets

6 A person seeking to purchase admission tickets at a fee lower than the fees prescribed in regulation 4 ("a discounted rate") shall apply in writing to the Minister for the approval of such a purchase.

Minister may grant or refuse approval

7 (1) Subject to this regulation, the Minister may grant or refuse approval of an application by a person to purchase admission tickets to the Aquarium at a discounted rate, or may grant an approval subject to such conditions as he specifies in the approval.

(2) The Minister shall not grant or refuse an approval without first consulting the Curator.

(3) The Minister shall not grant an approval unless he is satisfied that it is in the public interest that such an approval should be granted.

(4) The decision of the Minister to grant an approval, or to grant an approval subject to conditions, or to refuse an approval, is final for all purposes and is not subject to any appeal.

Applicants to be informed of outcome

8 As soon as the Minister has determined an application, he shall cause notice in writing of approval, or approval subject to conditions, or refusal, as the case may require, to be delivered—

(a) to the applicant;

(b) to the Curator.

Revocation

9 The Aquarium, Museum and Zoo Regulations 1974 are revoked.
