Architects Registration Regulations 1970

BERMUDA STATUTORY INSTRUMENT

ARCHITECTS REGISTRATION REGULATIONS 1970

[made under section 12 of the Architects Registration Act 1969 [title 30 item 1] and brought into operation on 14 February 1970]

Interpretation

1 In these Regulations—

"the Council" means the Architects Registration Council estab lished under section 3 of the Architects Registration Act 1969;

"the Register" means the register of architects maintained by the Registrar-General under section 5 of the Architects Registra tion Act 1969 [title 30 item 1].

Application for registration

2 (1) Application by a person to be registered under the Archi tects Registration Act 1969 shall be made to the Registrar-General in Form A in the Schedule.

(2) There shall be payable in respect of an application by a per son to be registered under the Architects Registration Act 1969—

(a) on application, a fee of $15.00; and

(b) on registration, a fee of $25.00;

and such fees shall be paid into the Consolidated Fund:

Provided that no fees shall be payable under this paragraph in respect of an application by any architect who is in the service of a Gov ernment Department.

Documents in support

3 (1) The following documents shall be forwarded by an applicant to the Registrar-General with an application to be registered under the Architects Registration Act 1969—

(a) the originals of all architectural diplomas awarded to the applicant, or copies of such architectural diplomas certi fied as true copies by or on behalf of the authorities by which the original architectural diplomas were respec tively awarded;

(b) where the applicant is registered as an architect in any country or place outside Bermuda, a copy of the relevant entry or entries in that foreign register certified as a true copy by the authority which keeps and maintains the foreign register;

(c) a certificate or testimonial of the character of the appli cant given within the period of three months last pre ceding the date of the application by a person of stand ing and responsibility well acquainted with the appli cant;

(d) a statement by the applicant of his experience in the practice of architecture up to the date of the application;

(e) a certificate or testimonial of the professional compe tence of the applicant in the practice of architecture by an architect of standing and responsibility well ac quainted with the practice of the applicant.

(2) In this Regulation—

(a) "foreign register" means a register of architectural prac titioners kept and maintained by any department of, or
any person acting under the authority of, the govern ment of any country or place;

(b) "architectural diploma" means any diploma, degree, fel lowship, membership, licence, authority to practise, let ters, testimonial, certificate, or other status or document granted in respect of architecture, or in respect of any branch of architecture by any university, corporation, college, or other body, or by any department of, or body of persons acting under, the authority of the government of any country or place, whether within or without Her Majesty's dominions.

Entries in register

4 Where, in pursuance of section 5(1) of the Architects Registration Act 1969, the name and professional qualifications of an applicant for registration under the Architects Registration Act 1969 are to be entered in the Register, there shall, together with such particulars, be entered the following particulars—

(a) the professional address of the applicant;

(b) the date of award of each professional qualification of the applicant;

(c) the date of the entry of the name and particulars of the applicant in the Register.

5 A certificate of registration shall be in Form B in the Schedule.

Additional particulars may be entered

6 Application by a registered architect to have particulars of any degree, diploma or other qualification entered in the Register in pur suance of section 5(3)(b) of the Architects Registration Act 1969 shall be made to the Registrar-General in Form C in the Schedule.

Service of documents

7 Any application, notice or other document which is required or authorized under the Architects Registration Act 1969 to be made or given to, or served on, any person may be made, given or served—

(a) by delivering it to that person; or

(b) in the case of the Registrar-General or the Council, by leaving it or sending it in a prepaid letter addressed to the Registrar-general or, as the case may be, the Chair man of the Architects Registration Council at the office of the Registrar General; or

(c) in the case of any other person, by leaving it or by sending it in a prepaid letter addressed to him, at his usual or last business residence.
