Bermuda Cadet
Corps continued
1 (1) Subject
to this Act, the Bermuda Cadet Corps heretofore known as "The Bermuda
Cadet Corps" shall continue to subsist under
that name.
(2) The general purpose of the Bermuda Cadet
Corps shall be to provide elementary
military training and discipline for boys attending the schools of Bermuda and
for other boys as
hereinafter in this Act provided.
Commandant and
officers of Bermuda Cadet Corps
2 (1) The
Bermuda Cadet Corps shall be under the command of a Commandant who shall be
appointed by the Governor and who shall hold office
for such period not
exceeding five years as may be specified in his appointment and who shall be
eligible for reappointment:
Provided that if at any
time a person holding the office of Com mandant becomes, in the opinion of the
Governor, unfit or unsuitable
to continue in office the Governor may remove him
from office by notice in writing sent by registered post and addressed to him
at his last known place of residence.
(2) There shall be such number of other officers
of the Bermuda Cadet Corps, of such ranks, as the Governor may from time to
time think
necessary and every such officer shall be appointed by the Governor
and shall hold office during the Governor's pleasure.
(3) No officer of the Bermuda Cadet Corps shall
be promoted or reduced in rank without the prior approval of the Governor.
Constitution of
Bermuda Cadet Corps
3 The Bermuda Cadet Corps shall consist
of the Commandant, of ficers and cadets of the Bermuda Cadet Corps, the cadets
being school
boys attending the schools of Bermuda and other boys (under the age
of eighteen years) enrolled in the Bermuda Cadet Corps in accor
dance with
rules made under section 5.
Governor to
have management and control of Bermuda Cadet Corps
4 (1) The
general control and management of the Bermuda Cadet Corps and of its finances
and property shall be vested in the Governor.
(2) In the exercise of his functions under
subsection (1), the Governor shall appoint a Committee of Management which
shall be com posed
of the Adjutant of the Bermuda Regiment as Chairman and one
representative from each school in Bermuda having schoolboys en rolled
as
cadets of the Bermuda Cadet Corps.
(3) The Committee of Management referred to in
subsection (2) shall carry into effect the policy and instructions of the
Governor in
rela tion to the control and management of the Bermuda Cadet Corps
and, when necessary, shall advise the Governor as to the practicability
or oth erwise
of any instructions which the Governor may wish to have carried into effect.
Rules
5 The Governor may make rules generally
for the efficient control and management of the Bermuda Cadet Corps, its
activities and prop
erty, and in particular may by such rules provide for
prescribing the conditions under which schoolboys generally, or the boys of
any
school,
or boys who are
not schoolboys, may be enrolled as cadets of the Bermuda Cadet Corps; and for
the division of the Bermuda Cadet
Corps into units; and for regulating the
appointment of non-commissioned offi cers among the cadets of the Bermuda Cadet
Corps;
and for prescribing the uniforms and badges to be worn by members of the
Bermuda Cadet Corps.
Governor to
receive funds and gifts for Bermuda Cadet Corps
6 The Governor shall have power to
receive any funds appropriated by the Legislature for the purposes of the
Bermuda Cadet Corps,
and any funds or gifts in kind given or bequeathed for the
purposes of the Bermuda Cadet Corps, and, subject to any terms, conditions
or
direc tions expressed in any such appropriation, gift, or bequest, shall apply
all such funds or gifts in furtherance of the
purposes of the Bermuda Cadet
Corps in such manner as he thinks fit.
