BERMUDA STATUTORY

GOVERNMENT OMNIBUS
(FARES) REGULATIONS 1952
[made under
section 9 of the Public Transportation Board Act 1951
[title 21 item 1] and brought into operation on 1 August 1952]

Citation
1 These Regulations may be cited as the
Government Omnibus (Fares) Regulations 1952.
Interpretation
2 In these Regulations—
"authorized
agent" includes a postmaster, postmistress or ferry contractor duly
authorized by the Board to sell tickets
and is sue transfers;
"child"
means a person who has attained the age of five years but has not attained the
age of sixteen years;
"handicapped
person" means a person who satisfies the Board that although he is able to
get on and off an omnibus un aided,
he is suffering from a physical or mental
disability to such an extent that—
(a) his earning capacity is restricted; or
(b) he is wholly or partially dependent upon
some other per son for financial support;
"monthly
pass" means a pass issued by or on behalf of the Board for the duration of
a month;
"multi-day pass" means a pass issued
by or on behalf of the Board for the duration of less than a month in respect
of
any journey;
"quarterly pass" means a pass issued
by or on behalf of the Board for the duration of three months;
"school" means any school or other
educational institution ap proved by the Minister of Education;
"special person" means a person of or
above the age of 65 years who is resident in Bermuda or a person who satisfies
the
Minister that he is suffering from a disability, whether physical or
otherwise, which hinders him from embarking on or disembarking
from a bus
unaided.
"student" means a person bona fide
attending any school on a full-time basis as a pupil or student;
"term pass" means a pass issued to a
student for the duration of a school term in respect of any journey;
"ticket" means a zone check issued to
an intending passenger by or on behalf of the Board entitling him to make a
journey
in respect of which the ticket has been issued;
"token" means a metal disc purchased
from an authorized agent by an intending passenger for deposit in the fare-box;
"transfer pass" means a pass which
entitles the holder to trans fer from one omnibus to another in order to
complete the
journey for which he has paid;
"zone", in relation to a route upon
which Government om nibuses are for the time being operated, means a sub division
of that route of approximately two miles in length de limited by the Board.

Savings
3 (1) Nothing
in these Regulations shall have effect with respect to the charges or fares
falling to be paid in respect of the carriage
of pas-sengers in any Government
omnibus which has been chartered or hired for that purpose.
(2) Nothing
in these Regulations shall have effect so as to re quire the payment of any
fare in respect of the carriage of any of the
fol lowing persons in any
Government omnibus—
(a) any blind person; and
(b) any officer or employee of the Board.
Fares
4 Fares for the carriage of passengers
in Government omnibuses shall be as follows—

(a) Persons of or above the age of 16 years and
less than 65 years of age— |

(i) Persons paying cash— |
|
|
Up
to 3 zones |
$2.50
per journey |
|
Up
to 14 zones |
$4.00 per journey |
|
(ii) Persons holding tickets— |
|
|
For any journey up to 3 zones, |
|
|
For any journey up to 14 zones, |
|
|
(iii) Persons
holding passes— |
|
|
Monthly— |
|
|
subject
to such discount, not exceeding 10%, as the Board may from time to time allow
to an authorized agent who purchases ten
passes or more; |
|
|
Quarterly— |
|
|
(iv) Persons
using tokens— |
|
|
Up to 3 zones |
$2.25 per journey |
|
Up to 14 zones |
$3.75 per journey |
|
subject to such discount, not exceeding 10%, as the Board
may from time to time allow to an authorized agent who purchases 200
tokens
or more |
|
|
(b) Special
person on production of a special transportation identification— |
|
|
(c) Students
and children— |
|
|
(i) if
payment is made in cash: |
$1.00 for any journey up to 14 zones |
|
(ii) if
monthly pass is purchased: |
$17.00 per month |
|
(iii) if
term pass is purchased: |
$38.00 per term |
|
(iv) if
booklet of tickets is purchased, |
|
|
(d) Persons
under 5 years of age: |
Free |
|
(e) Persons
holding multi-day passes— |
|
|
(i) for
travel for 1 day: |
$10.00 |
|
(ii) for travel for
3 days: |
|
|
Adult |
$21.00 |
|
Child |
$10.00 |
|
(iii) for
travel for 7 days: |
|
|

Use of tokens
5 Passenger may use a token for deposit
in the fare-box as de fined in regulation 2(1) of the Government Omnibus
(Fares) Regulations
1952.
