BERMUDA STATUTORY INSTRUMENT
MARINE BOARD (NAVIGATION) (H.M. SHIPS)
(SHIP CHAN NELS) REGULATIONS 1962
[originally made under section 8 of
the Board of Trade Acts 1930 with the title "The Board of Trade
(Navigation)(Ship Channels)
Regulations 1937" and brought into operation
on 21 February 1938, now deemed to have been made under section 103 of the
Marine
Board Act 1962

ARRANGEMENT OF REGULATIONS
1 Signal that one of HM Ships is proceeding to sea in an emergency
2 Duty to keep ships clear of channels on signal be ing made
3 Relaying of signal
Signal that one of HM Ships is proceeding to sea in an emergency
1 (1) A red ensign over a black ball, hoisted by all H.M. Ships, and Fort George Signal Station will indicate that one of H.M. Ships is proceeding to sea in an emergency, and that the channels are to be kept clear for such ship.
(2) The signal shall be displayed a quarter of an hour before the ship proceeds to sea and, if necessary, a gun will be fired by the ship to call the attention of masters of vessels to the signal.
(3) A W/T message may be broadcast on 500 k/cs by the ship proceeding to sea in the manner "I have right of way, ships please keep clear of channels. Am leaving Grassy Bay at [blank] hours."
Duty to keep ships clear of channels on signal being made
2 Upon the signal referred to in regulation 1(1) being made—
(a) all incoming traffic outside the Narrows shall wait in Five Fathom Hole;
(b) all incoming traffic inside the Narrows and Murray's An chorage shall wait in Murray's Anchorage;
(c) all outgoing traffic shall wait either in Grassy Bay or in Murray's Anchorage.
Relaying of signal
3 The naval authorities will inform Fort George Signal Station, from whence the signal will be immediately relayed to the Pilot Station, so that the necessary steps can be taken—
(a) at the eastern end of Bermuda; and
(b) at Hamilton,
to comply with these Regulations.
