THE MERCHANT SHIPPING (SAFETY CONVENTION) (BERMUDA) (No. 2) ORDER 1973

[made by Her Majesty in Council under the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act 1932, and the Merchant Shipping (Safety Con vention) Act 1949 and brought into operation on 23 August 1973 and also published in Bermuda as SR&O 19/1975]

 

 

1 This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Safety Con vention) (Bermuda) (No. 2) Order 1973 and shall come into operation on 23rd August, 1973.

2 The provisions of Part I of the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act 1932 set out in Part I of the Schedule hereto, which are expressed to apply only to British ships registered in the United Kingdom, shall apply to British ships registered in Bermuda.

3 The provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 set out in Part II of the Schedule hereto, which are expressed to apply only to British ships registered in the United Kingdom, shall apply to British ships registered in Bermuda.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not Part of the Order.)

This Order extends to Bermuda those provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act 1932 and the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) Act 1949 which provide for the application to British ships registered in Bermuda rules concerning—

(a) reporting action to be taken by masters when encoun tering certain dangers to navigation;

(b) the carrying of a signal lamp;

(c) navigation procedures when near ice;

(d) the requirement to have appropriate certification before proceedings to sea;

(e) obligation to assist vessels in distress.
