THE BAHAMAS ELECTRICITY CORPORATION

(AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2003

The Bahamas Electricity Corporation in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by section 60 of the Electricity Act and with the approval of the Minister, makes the following Regulations -

1.(1)
These Regulations which amend The Bahamas Electricity Corporation Regulations may be cited as The Bahamas Electricity Corporation (Amendment) Regulations, 2003.

Citation and commencement.

These Regulations are deemed to have come into force on the 1st day of October, 2003.
2.
Nothing in these Regulations shall affect the rates and charges in force immediately before the making of these Regulations for electricity supplied by the Corporation and consumed prior to 1st October, 2003.

Old rates effective until 1st October 2003.

3.
The Second Schedule to the principal Regulations is repealed and replaced as follows -

"SECOND SCHEDULE

PART A

Basic Rates and Charges - New Providence including Paradise Island and designated Family Islands or part of the Family Island.

TARIFF "A" - RESIDENTIAL

1st October, 2003

For electricity supplied to premises used as private residence :

(a)

For each unit up to 800 units per month

15.00 cents

(b)

For each unit in excess of 800 units per month

18.41 cents

(c)

Minimum charge per month

$ 3.00

TARIFF "B" - COMMERCIAL

1.

For electricity supplied to Commercial Installations, the maximum demand of' which does not exceed 10KVA -

(a)

For each unit of electricity

18.28 cents

(b)

Minimum charge per month KVA demand

$ 6.40

2.

For electricity supplied to Commercial Installations, the maximum demand of which exceeds 10KVA -

(a)

Maximum Demand charges per KVA per annum

$123.96

(b)

Unit charges - for each unit of electricity

TARIFF "D" - TEMPORARY SERVICE

For electricity supplied for service of a temporary nature :

The cost of installing the connection

This service may be disconnected without notice should such service be used to supply any part of a permanent electrical installation which has not been inspected and passed by the Corporation's Inspector or in the event of the premises being used for residential or commercial purposes.

STREET LIGHTING - SPECIAL TARIFF

For electricity supplied for street lighting per unit consumed

13.50 cents

OTHER CHARGES

(a)

Special reading, check reading, fuse replacement

(b)

Meter test - Minimum charge

(c)

Visit with intent to disconnect - Residential Consumer

PART B

FUEL SURCHARGE

(a)

The basic rate and charges set forth in Part A of this schedule shall, as respect rates or charges made by reference to units consumed (however expressed), be increased by a surcharge of 0.01 cent for each unit of electricity consumed in every billing period.

(b)

The surcharge of 0.01 cent for each unit of electricity consumed referred to in paragraph (a) shall be increased or decreased in respect of units consumed after the 30th SEPTEMBER, 2003 in the following manner :

(i)

By the amount of 0.1029 cents per unit for every $1.00 per barrel increase/decrease in the price of automotive diesel oil above or below $30.00 per barrel ;

(ii)

By the amount of 0.0859 cents per unit for every $1.00 per barrel increase/decrease in the price of Bunker 'C' fuel oil above or below $20.00 per barrel.

(c)

A "True Up" adjustment shall be made to the fuel surcharge each year, beginning with bills rendered on the 1st November of each year, by adding or subtracting, as appropriate, an amount equal to the difference between actual fuel cost and fuel cost recovered during the immediately preceding period of twelve months commencing 1st October divided by the estimated number of units to be sold during the ensuing year commencing 1st November, each year.".
