AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, THE UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA, INDIA AND PAKISTAN AND THE ROYAL EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT REGARDING WAR CEMETERIES, GRAVES AND MEMORIALS OF THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH IN EGYPT RESULTING FROM THE WAR OF 1939

The Governments of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, India and Pakistan of the first part; and the Royal Egyptian Government, of the second part;

Desiring to extend the provisions of the Agreement signed at Cairo on the 2nd June 1937, and of the accompanying Exchange of Notes of the 2nd and 5th June 1937, relating to British War Memorial Cemeteries and Graves in Egyptian Territory (together hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement of 1937"): and

Desiring to modify in certain other respects the provisions of the Agree­ment of 1937:

Have agreed as follows:

ARTICLE I

The provisions of the Agreement of 1937 shall extend and apply to the War Cemeteries, Graves and Memorials of sailors, soldiers and airmen of the countries of the Commonwealth who fell in the War of 1939 and whose remains rest in Egyptian territory.

ARTICLE 2

The Committee referred to in Articles 11 and 12 of the Agreement of 1937 shall now be known as the "Commonwealth-Egyptian Joint Committee".

ARTICLE 3

This Agreement shall enter into force one month after the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the Royal Egyptian Government.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF the undersigned duly authorized thereto have signed the present Agreement and have affixed thereto their seals.

DONE at Alexandria this eighth day of June 1952.
