Exchange of Notes (September 9 and 30, 1959) between Canada and Greece concerning Non-Immigrant Visa Arrangements between the two countries [1959] CATSer 7 (30 October 1959)

E102536 - CTS 1959 No. 19

EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN CANADA AND GREECE CONCERNING NON-IMMIGRANT VISA ARRANGEMENTS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES

I

The Canadian Ambassador to Greece to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece

CANADIAN EMBASSY

September 9, 1959

H. E. Evangelos Averoff-Tossizza,
Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Athens

Excellency,

I have the honour to propose, on instructions from my Government, that an agreement for the modification of non-immigrant visa requirements be concluded between our two Governments in the following terms:

(1) Greek citizens who are bona fide non-immigrants coming to Canada and who are in possession of valid national passports shall receive promptly from the Canadian visa officers, visas, free of charge, valid for an unlimited number of entries into Canada during a period of twelve months from the date of issue of such visas.

(2) Canadian citizens who are bona fide non-immigrants and who are in possession of valid national passports may without previously obtaining Greek visas visit Greece for periods each not exceeding three consecutive months. Extensions of these periods may be granted by the appropriate Greek authorities upon application, and, when granted, shall always be gratis.

(3) It is understood that this modification of entrance requirements does not exempt Greek and Canadian citizens coming respectively to Canada and Greece from the necessity of complying with the laws and regulations of the country concerned regarding the entry, residence, and employment or occupation of foreigners, and that persons who are unable to comply with the laws and regulations shall be liable to be refused leave to enter or land.

If the foregoing proposals are acceptable to your Government, I have the honour to suggest that this Note and your reply to that effect shall constitute an Agreement between our two Governments, which shall come into force one month after the date of your reply and shall remain in force until thirty days after a notice of termination has been received by either Government.

Accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration.

E. D'Arcy McGreer,

Ambassador of Canada
