EXCHANGE OF NOTES CONSTITUTING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF IRAN CONCERNING VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-IMMIGRANTS

Excellency,

I have the honour to refer to the Exchange of Notes between the Government of Canada and the Government of Iran concerning visa requirements for non-immigrant travellers of our two countries, done at Ottawa on March 10, 1961. I also have the honour to refer to recent discussions between representatives of our two Governments concerning the relaxation of existing visa requirements with a view to facilitating travel by Canadian and Iranian nationals temporarily resident in our respective countries. Pursuant to these discussions, I have the honour to propose that the agreement constituted by the Exchange of Notes of March 10, 1961, be amended by adding the following paragraph (6) to the List of Terms governing visa requirements for non-immigrant entry:

“(6) Exit visas shall not be required for residents in either country during the period of validity of their resident permits.”

If this proposal is acceptable to the Government of Iran, I have the honour to propose that this Note, which is authentic in English and French, and your reply to that effect shall constitute an agreement between our two Governments which shall enter into force on December 1, 1978 and which shall remain in force until two months after the date of receipt of notification of termination by either Government.
