Welcome to the Commonwealth Legal Information Institute (CommonLII), one of the Commonwealth largest online legal resources. This page contains pointers to the information you are most likely to need when visiting CommonLII for the first time.

Finding Legal Information

• Lawyers, Librarians, etc
  You can browse the full list of databases available on CommonLII page and then select a specific court, tribunal, journal, law reform or legislation database in which you are interested. Alternatively, you can use the Advanced Search page to search by individual database (eg only High Court decisions), by jurisdiction or by other grouping. If you can not find it on CommonLII, try looking in the WorldLII Catalog. If you know the name of the document you are after you can use the tables of contents and indices. Otherwise, see Search Help for information on using the CommonLII search engine.

• Non-Lawyers, Students, etc
  If you are interested in information about a particular subject, you might like to start from the WorldLII catalog. You may also be interested in browsing the full list of databases available on CommonLII. Introductory information about case law, legislation and other materials may also be helpful.
