EXCHANGE OF LETTERS BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF FRANCE CONCERNING EXTENSION OF TRADE ARRANGEMENTS

Dear Mr. SWAMINATHAN,

In the course of our discussions on February 17, 1961 we agreed that the arrangements set down in the exchange of letters on October 19, 1959 between M. Max Flechet, Secretaire d'Etat aux Affaires Economiques and Shri K.B. Lall, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi, should be renewed for a period of one year from the present date and that on the expiry of this period the matter should be further reviewed.

I have the honour to convey to you the agreement of the French authorities, the understanding reached between us.

I shall be obliged if you will confirm the agreement of your Government on these points.

During the meeting of the Franco-Indian Joint Commission on the 5th June 1962, it was considered necessary to renew the provisions contained in the exchange of letters of the 19th October 1959 between M. Flechet, State Secretary to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Shri K.B. Lall, Secretary General of Ministry of Commerce, for a period of one year with effect from today and that, after the expiry of this period, these letters would form the subject of a fresh examination.

I have the honour to convey to you the agreement of the French authorities concerning this extension.

I would be obliged to you if you would kindly confirm the agreement of your Government on the above points.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH DELEGATION

Mr. SECRETARY,

During the meetings of the Franco-Indian Economic Commission held from 10th to 14th March, 1964, it has been agreed to renew, for a period of one year beginning from today, the provisions contained in the Franco-Indian Exchange of Letters of 19th October, 1959 relating to the means appropriate for developing exchanges between India and France.

In addition, it has been judged desirable to enlarge the field of Franco-Indian Collaboration provided in that text and, consequently, to discuss hence forward within the Franco-Indian Economic Commission the various questions arising from the development of economic relations between the two countries as well as problems of common interest relating to international trade.

I have the honour to convey to you the agreement of the French authorities to the above mentioned provisions. I shall be grateful if you will kindly confirm that they also have the approval of your Government.

"During the course of the meetings of the Indo French Economic Commission, held at Paris on the 19th and 20th October 1961, it was agreed to renew for a period of one year beginning from the 16th June 1967, the provisions contained in the letters exchanged on the 19th October 1959 relating to appropriate means to develop trade exchanges between India and France, and the provisions contained in the letters exchanged on the 15th March 1964, extending the scope of the Indo-French trade and economic cooperation.

I have the honour to convey to you the agreement of the Government of the Republic of France with regard to this renewal. I shall be obliged if you would kindly confirm similar agreement of your Government on this point."
