MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT
OF INDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ON RAKHA COPPER MINE FEASIBILITY STUDY

New Delhi, 23 November 1972

The President of INDIA
(hereinafter called “India”)

AND

The Government of CANADA
(hereinafter called “Canada” acting through the Canadian International Development Agency)

WHEREAS the Government of India and the Government of Canada desiring to record an understanding concerning the provision of the service of consulting engineers for a feasibility study of the Rakha Copper Mine in India

HAVE AGREED as follows :

Article I

Section 1.01
The project will be known as the Rakha Copper Mine Feasibility Study and will be taken in India by a Canadian Consultant team.

Section 1.02
In general terms, this study will be undertaken with a view to providing recommendations on which to effect mine development and to supplying preliminary engineering studies of production operation at the Rakha Copper Mine site.

Article II

Section 2.01
As part of its contribution under its cooperative assistance programme of India, the Government of Canada, through the Canadian International Development Agency will provide an amount not to exceed three hundred thousand Canadian dollars ($ 300,000) to pay for the services of a Canadian consultant team which will undertake the aforementioned study.

Article III

Section 3.01
As detailed in Section 4 of Annex ‘A’ hereto and in accordance with normal Colombo Plan practice, the Government of India will provide counterpart personnel and bear the cost of all administrative assistance and all local support.

Article IV

Section 4.01
The implementation of the Project will be in accordance with the description and scope of work in Annex ‘A’ hereto. It is estimated that the project will require approximately ten months to complete.

Article V

Section 5.01
Annex ‘A’ of this Memorandum may be amended from time to time in accordance with the spirit of the Memorandum by letters exchanged between the appropriate department of the Government of India and the Canadian High Commission of India.
