Sentence of death

237.
(1) Before sentence of death is pronounced the accused shall be asked whether he has anything to say why such sentence should not be pronounced against him.
(2) When a person is sentenced to death the sentence shall direct that he be hanged by the neck till he is dead at a place specified in the sentence and on a date to be appointed in that behalf by the President of the Republic.
(3) Where any person convicted of an offence punishable with death, appears to the court to be under the age of sixteen years, the court shall, in lieu of the sentence of death, sentence such person to be detained during the pleasure of the President of the Republic.
(4) Where a woman convicted of an offence punishable with death alleges that she is pregnant, or where the court before whom a woman is so convicted thinks it expedient that the question whether or not the woman is pregnant should be determined, such question shall be determined by the Judge on such evidence as may be laid before him either by the woman or by the prosecution, and the Judge shall find that the woman is not pregnant unless it is proved affirms-lively to his satisfaction that she is pregnant. If the finding is that the woman is pregnant, the court shall pronounce on her, in lieu of the sentence of death, a sentence of imprisonment for life.
