Administration of Justice Law (No. 44 of 1973) - Sect 54

Interpretation

54. In this Chapter, unless the context otherwise requires- " action " means a proceeding for the prevention or redress of a wrong; " admiralty jurisdiction " means, until otherwise provided for by written law, the admiralty jurisdiction for the time being of the High Court of England; " cause of action " means the wrong for the prevention or redress of which an action may be brought, and includes the denial of a right, the refusal to fulfil an obligation, the neglect to perform a duty, and the infliction of an affirmative injury; " Magistrate's Court " includes the Court of any Municipal Magistrate; " offence " means any act or omission made punishable by any written law in Sri Lanka; " subordinate court " means any High Court, District Court or Magistrate's Court.
