Administration of Justice Law (No. 44 of 1973) - Sect 96

Search of suspected to contain stolen property

96. If a court upon information inquiry as it thinks necessary has that any place is used for the deposit or sale of stolen property or of property unlawfully obtained, or for the purpose of the commission of a crime, or for the deposit of any implements which have been or are capable of being used in the commission of a crime, it may by warrant authorize (the person to whom such warrant is directed-
(a) to enter such place with such assistance as may be required: and
(b) to search the same in manner specified in the warrant; and
(c) to take possession of any property found there and
(d) to convey such property before court or to guard the same on the spot until the offender is taken before a court or otherwise to dispose thereof in some place of safety; and
(e) to take into custody and produce before a every person found in such place who appears to have been privy to the deposit, sale, or manufacture, or keeping of any such properly, knowing or having reasonable cause to suspect the said property to have been stolen or otherwise unlawfully obtained, used or retained.
