Ceylon Electricity Board Act (No. 17 of 1969) - Sect 11

Duties of the Board,

11.
(1) It shall be the duty of the Board, with affect from the date of the transfer to the Board of the Government Electrical Undertakings under section 18, to develop and maintain an efficient, coordinated and economical system of electricity supply for the whole of Ceylon other than the area of authority of the Anuradhapura Preservation Board.
(2) For the purpose referred to in sub-section (1), it shall be the duty of the Board-
(a) to take over and carry on the Government Electrical Undertakings with effect from the date of the transfer to the Board of such Undertakings;
(b) to take over and carry on any electrical under- takings transferred to the Board under section 26;
(c) to generate or acquire supplies of electricity;
(d) to construct, maintain and operate the necessary works for the generation of electricity by all means;
(e) to construct, maintain and operate the necessary works for the inter-connection of generating stations and sub-stations and for the transmission of electricity in bulk from generating stations and sub-stations to such places as may be necessary from time to time;
(f) to distribute and sell electricity in bulk or otherwise; and
(g) to develop a sound, adequate and uniform electricity policy, and, for that purpose, to control and utilize national power resources.
(3) Nothing in this section shall be construed as imposing on the Board, either directly or indirectly. form of duty or liability enforceable by proceedings before any court or tribunal to which the Board will not otherwise be subject.
