Development Councils Elections Act (No. 20 of 1981) - Sect 8

Recognized political parties for the purpose of election

8.
(1) Every political party which, on the day immediately preceding the date of coming into operation of this Act, is entitled to be treated as a recognized political party under the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, or of elections. under the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance, shall, so long as that political party continues to be treated as a recognized political party under that Act or Ordinance, be deemed to be a recognized political party for the purpose of elections under this Act.
(2) Where a political party is deemed by virtue of the operation of the provisions of subsection (1) to be a recognized political party for the purpose of elections under this Act, the approved symbol allotted to that party under the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, or the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance or any other law, shall be deemed to be the approved symbol of that party until such party ceases to be so entitled under subsection (1).
