36. The Minister may, in consultation with the Minister in charge of the subject of Conservation of Wildlife, by Order published in the Gazette, declare any area of Sri Lanka Waters or any land adjacent thereto or both such waters and land to be a fisheries reserve, where he considers that special measures are necessary. | (a) to afford special protection to the aquatic resources to danger of extinction in such waters or land and to protect and preserve the natural breeding grounds and habitat of fish and aquatic resources with particular regard to coral growth and aquatic ecosystems ; |

| (b) to promote regeneration of aquatic life in areas where such life has been depleted ; |

| (c) to protect the aquatic medium.; |
|
| (d) to promote scientific study and rescard in respect of such area ; or. |
|
| (e) to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of such area. |
