Industrial Disputes Act (No. 27 of 1966) - Sect 48

Strikes and lock-outs in essential industries

32.
(1) No employer shall commence, or continue or participate in, or do any act in furtherance of, a lock-out in connexion with any industrial dispute in any essential industry, unless written notice of intention to commence the lock-out had, at least twenty-one days before the date of the commencement of the lock-out, been given in the prescribed manner and form by the employer or on his behalf to the workmen who will be affected by the lock-out.
(2) No workman shall commence, or continue, or participate in, or do any act in furtherance of, any strike in connexion with any industrial dispute in any essential industry, unless written notice of intention ,to commence the strike had, at least twenty-one days before the date of the commencement of the strike, been given in the prescribed manner and form by such workman or on his behalf to his employer.
