Merchant Shipping Act (No. 52 of 1971) - Sect 143

Prohibit ion on passenger ship sailing without certificates

143.
(1) A passenger ship shall not go to sea on a voyage to or from any port or place in Ceylon, unless there is in force in respect of the ship either-
(a) a passenger ship safety certificate; or
(b) a qualified passenger ship safety certificate and an exemption certificate,
(2) If any passenger ship goes or attempts to go to sea in contravention of sub-section (1), the owner or the master of the ship shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two hundred rupees for every passenger carried on board the ship.
