Merchant Shipping Act (No. 52 of 1971) - Sect 166

Prohibition on sailing without certificates

166.
(1) Subject to any exemption granted under this Part, a ship registered in Ceylon shall not go or attempt to go to sea, unless-
(a) the ship has been surveyed in accordance with the Load Line Regulations;
(b) the ship is marked with a deck line and a load line in accordance with those Regulations; and
(c) the ship complies with those Regulations.
(2) If any ship goes or attempts to go to sea in contravention of sub-section (1), the owner or the master of the ship shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two hundred rupees.
