Merchant Shipping Act (No. 52 of 1971) - Sect 192

Notice of loss of Ceylon ship to he given to the Director

192.
(1) If the managing owner or agent of any Ceylon ship has reason, owing to the non-appearance of the ship or to any other circumstance, to believe that the ship has been wholly lost, he shall cause a reasonable search to be made for the ship and shall, as soon as conveniently may be, send to the Director a notice in writing signed by him and stating-
(a) the name of the ship, the port to which the ship belongs and the official number (if any) of the ship; and
(b) a report loss of the ship and the circumstances and probable cause of such loss.
(2) Any managing owner a agent of a ship who fails, without reasonable cause, to comple with this section within a reasonable period from the time when he has reason to believe such ship to have been lost, shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand rupees.
