Merchant Shipping Act (No. 52 of 1971) - Sect 267

Preliminary inquiry into shipping casualties,

267.
(1) When a shipping casualty occurs, a preliminary inquiry may be held by the receiver of wrecks residing at or nearest to the place at which the casualty occurs or by any person appointed in that behalf by the Director.
(2) For the purpose of any investigation under sub-section (1), the person holding the same shall have all the powers of an inspector under this Act.
