Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act (No. 21 of 1981) - Sect 64

Amendment of section 148 of the principal enactment

64. Section 148 of the principal enactment is hereby amended as follows :
(1) by the repeal of subsection (1) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following subsection :
" (1) A motor vehicle being driven shall be kept to the left or near side of the road. except when such vehicle is overtaking other traffic or turning right;
(2) by the repeal of subsection (4) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following subsection :
" (4) A motor vehicle overtaking other traffic shall be kept on the right off side of such other traffic :
(3) by the repeal of subsection (13) of that section and the substitution therefor of the following subsection :
"(13) A motor vehicle turning to the right from any highway into any other highway shall, firstly, be positioned for the manoeuvre by being driven, ridden or pushed nearly parallel to the centre of the road. At the same time the driver shall signal his intention to turn right. On reaching the point of turn, which should be close to the centre of the intersection of the two highways he shall proceed to complete the manoeuvre by turning right into fife other highway, having ascertained that his path is clear of on-coming traffic. Where there is any structure at the above-mentioned intersection, the manoeuvre shall be completed keeping such structure on the right of the motor vehicle unless otherwise ordered by & police officer.
