Parliament Elections Act (No. 1 of 1981) - Sect 70

Restriction on public meetings

70. No public meeting shall be held during the period commencing forty-eight hours before the date of the poll and ending one week after the Members of Parliament for all the electoral districts in respect of which a poll has been taken on such date have been declared elected by the respective returning officers. Every person who contravenes any of the preceding provisions of this section shall be guilty of an offence and shall, on conviction after summary trial before a Magistrate, be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred rupees, or to imprisonment of either description for a term not exceeding one month, or to both such fine and imprisonment.
