Securities Council Act (No. 36 of 1987) - Sect 55

Interpretation

55. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires " investor" means a person who invests in securities purchased or transacted through a licensed stock broker of a licensed stock exchange ,; "listed public company" means any public company which has its securities listed or quoted on a licensed stock exchange; "listed securities" means securities of any listed public company ; " securities" means debentures, stocks d shares in a public company or corporation, funds or bonds of any government or of any body, corporate or unincorporate, including any right or section in respect thereof or any other certificate or interest bought or sold on a stock exchange; "stock exchange" means a market, exchange or other place at which securities are regularly offered for sale, purchase or exchange, including any services. connected with such business ; "stock broker" means any individual or body corporate engaged in the business of buying or selling of securities on behalf of investors in return for a Commission; "stock dealer" means any individual or body corporate engaged in the business of buying or selling of securities or in the dealing or jobbing or trading of securities, or the underwriting or retailing of securities.
