Sri Lanka Standards Institution Act (No. 6 of 1984) - Sect 50

Interpretation

50. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires "certification mark" means a mark which has under subsection (1) of section 17 been declared to be a certification mark; "code of practice" means a set of rules relating to the methods to be applied or the procedure to be adopted in connection with the construction, installation, testing, operation or use of any article, apparatus, instrument, device or process ; "Director-General" means the Director-General of the Institution ; "inspector "means an inspector appointed under section 29; "mark" includes any device, brand, heading, label, ticket, pictorial representation, name, signature, letter, numeral or any combination thereof; "sell" includes expose or offer for a sale, or export for the purpose of sale, or have in possession for the purpose of sale or export or for any purpose of trade or manufacture ; "specification" means a description of any commodity, by reference to its nature, quality, strength, purity, composition, quantity, dimensions, weight, grade, durability, origin, age or other characteristics, of the material or substance from or with which or of the manner in which any commodity or product, may be manufactured, produced, processed or treated; "standard specification" means a specification, -which has been approved by the Council of the Institution.
