Village Councils Law (No. 6 of 1964) - Sect 84

Power of Minister to make inquiry as to default in duty by Village Councils. [ 26, 60 of 1961.]

56A.
(1) If at any time it appears to the Minister that any Village Council is omitting to perform any duty or to carry out any work imposed upon the Council by this Ordinance or any other written law, or that the Council has otherwise made default in the performance of any of its duties or the discharge of any of its responsibilities under this Ordinance or any other written law? the Minister may in writing give notice to the Council that, unless within such time as shall be specified in the notice the Council shows cause to the contrary, the Minister will appoint a person or persons to inquire into and report upon such omission or default to the Minister and to make recommendations as to the measures that should be taken for the purpose of performing such duty or carrying out such work or making good such default.
(2) Where any cause or sufficient cause is not shown by any Village Council to which notice is given under subsection (1), the Minister shall appoint a person or persons to hold the inquiry referred to in the notice, Such inquiry shall be held as far as practicable in public.
