TOBACCO (SMOKING CONTROL) ACT (CAP. 315)
Tobacco Products (Cigarette Composition) Regulations, 2003
IN exercise of the powers conferred by article 9 of the Tobacco (Smoking Control) Act, the Minister of Health has made the following regulations>–
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Tobacco Products
(Cigarette Composition) Regulations, 2003.

2. In these regulations –
“tar” means the raw anhydrous nicotine-free condensate of smoke<
“nicotine” means nicotinic alkaloids.
3. The yield of cigarettes marketed in Malta shall not be greater than 10mg per cigarette for tar, 1mg per cigarette for nicotine and 10mg per cigarette for carbon monoxide.
4. The yield of cigarettes shall be measured according to ISO
standards 4387 for tar, 10315 for nicotine and 8454 for carbon monoxide.
5. (1) The testing and verification of the yields referred to in regulations 3 and 4 hereof shall be carried out or verified by or in licensed laboratories.
(2) Verification of the tar and nicotine indication on cigarette packets shall be in accordance with ISO Standard 8243.
