ORDER FOR EXPEDITED FILINGS

I, HON. JUSTICE BANKOLE THOMPSON, Presiding Judge of Trial Chamber I of the Special Court for Sierra Leone (“Special Court”);

HAVING RECEIVED the Gbao – Request for the Gbao Opening Statement to be Given at the Beginning of the Presentation of Evidence for the Third Accused, filed publicly by Court Appointed Counsel for the Third Accused, Augustine Gbao, (“Gbao Defence”) on the 16th of April 2007 and served on the 17th of April 2007 (“Motion”);

NOTING that the Gbao Defence is seeking a postponement of the opening statement for the Third Accused until the commencement of the presentation of the evidence on his behalf rather than at the beginning of the Defence case;

NOTING that the Defence case is scheduled to commence on the 3rd of May 2007;[1]

CONSIDERING that Article 17(4)(c) of the Statute of the Special Court provides that the Accused shall be entitled “to be tried without undue delay”;

CONSIDERING that the fair and expeditious consideration of the Motion requires the imposition of an expedited timetable for the filing of a response and a reply;

PURSUANT TO Rule 7(C), 27, 54 and 73 of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence of the Special Court;

HEREBY ORDER as follows:

1. Any Response to the Motion by the Office Prosecutor shall be filed no later than Friday, the 20th of April 2007 at 4:00pm; and
   
2. Any Reply by the Gbao Defence shall be filed no later than Monday, the 23rd of April 2007 at 4:00pm.
